SERVICES AVAILABLE AT THE PORT :
1. SERVICES AVAILABLE AT THE PORT:
a) The Port
provides a fully Mechanised Ore Handling Plant at
berth no.9 to handle over 12 million tones of iron
ore, per annum, by receiving them from barges,
stock-piling at the plots and loading in vessels of
sizes ranging from 30,000 DWT to over 2,10,000 DWT
with L.O.A of up to 335 Mts. and beam 50Mts.vessels
can be loaded at this berth up to a draft of 14.1
Mts. In conjunction with high water and 13.3Mts. at
all stages of tide during fair season. While ships
of 70,000 DWT can be fully loaded at this berth,
bigger vessels can be loaded upto permissible draft
and thereafter up-topped by privately owned
transhippers, which are licensed to operate in this
port.
b) In
addition, the Port has constructed an alongside deep
drafted berth(berth no.8) with necessary fire
fighting and pollution control infrastructure to
handle about 1.5 million tones of petroleum products
and other liquid cargoes like ammonia, phosphoric
acid, caustic soda, etc. The berth is connected to
the tankage facilities of the oil companies. Vessels
upto 80,000 DWT can be brought to this berth, where
a maximum draft of 12.5Mts. is provided in
conjunction with high water during the fair season
and 11.0Mts. during monsoon(June to September).
c) The Port
has also provided two modern Multipurpose General
Cargo berths No.10 &11 with a combined length of
520Mts and drafts of 11 Mts 12.5Mts.respectivly.
Fully laden vessels of 45,000 DWT and 60,000 DWT
respectively can be handled at these berths. There
are no beam restrictions. Vessels upto 225Mts.LOA
can be handled in fair season and upto 215Mts.
during monsoon season. Covered and open storage
accommodation are provided adjacent to the berths.
Rail and Road facilities are available for clearance
of cargoes. A 60 tonne Electronic weigh bridge is
provided for weighment of trucks. 56 Reefer points
are provided for maintaining the low temperatures
to service refrigerated containers.
d) The berth
no.5A & 6A are developed with combined length of
500m and draft of 14.mts with mechanized cargo
discharge facility on BOOT basis as a common users
facility (capacity of 5 million tones /annum) by
private operators M/s. South West Port Ltd. The
adequate facilities for receipt/dispatch of cargo by
road and rail modes are also provided at the
terminal.
e) There are
4 trashippers each having an average loading
capacity of about 15000 per day operating in
mid-stream. Besides this, there are 3 mooring
dolphins capable of accommodating Panamax size of
70000 dwt are also available to handle ores and
other bulk cargo by ship’s own gears.
f) Adequate
depths are maintained at the berths and navigational
channel by annual maintenance dredging. Day and
Night Navigational facilities, pilotage service, tug
assistance, pilot launches, water barge and mooring
barge are provided round the clock. The Signal
Station of the Port provides round the clock
communication with the vessels calling at the Port.
g) To
facilitate the container traffic and for use of the
trade Port has outsourced the Total management of
Yard& handling, transportation of containers within
port premises to private party M/s Roadwings
International Pvt. Ltd. M’bai for a period of five
years.
h). Development of a Coal Terminal at Port of Mormugao, Goa,
India on DBFOT basis:
Mormugao Port Trust
has initiated the action for Development of a Coal
Terminal for 7 Million Tonnes per annum at Port of
Mormugao, Goa, India on Design, Build, Finance,
Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis on Public Private
Partnership Model. The facility is expected to be
completed and fully operational by March 2012.
1(a) Shall be replaced with the
following extract 'Upgradation of Mechanical Ore
Handling Plant - The work of upgradation of the
Mechanical Ore Handling Plant is being carried out
through the Project Management Consultant, M/s Howe
(India) Pvt. Ltd. Total project cost is Rs.223
crores and work-order was placed on 18/6/08.
The work of
replacement of 3nos. rail mounted stackers of
4000TPH capacity has been awarded to M/s. Sandvik
Asia Ltd. at a cost of Rs.27.80 crores and is
expected for completion by March 2010.
On completion of the
proposed augmentation, the capacity of the Port for
handling ore will stand at 29.5 million tonnes
p.a.'

WATER & BUNKERING FACILITIES
Water is supplied alongside the
berths
directly from shore facilities and in stream from
200 tonnes self propelled water barge. Water supply
is regulated in accordance with availability of
main supply. Facilities are available for supply of
fuel oil, light diesel oil and high speed diesel oil
to vessels visiting the port at the berth with prior
arrangements with Oil Companies.
3. ENTITLEMENT OF THE PORT USERS IN RESPECT OF
SERVICES PROVIDED :
(a) The port services are made available to the
users on equitable and non-discriminatory basis.
(b) Vessels can generally expect to get berths
within 24 hours on arrival, except for reasons not
attributable to the Port like bunching of vessels,
non-availability of cargo etc.
(c) Pilotage service is available round the clock.
The Port's Pilot boards the vessel immediately on
arrival of the vessel at outer anchorage/entrance
channel. During monsoon season, Pilotage is
restricted to daylight hours only.
4. QUALITY OF SERVICE :
(a) The Port is committed to maintaining a
user-friendly approach, provide services of certain
quality and standard unparalleled elsewhere. The
Port has been conferred with ISO 9001:2000
Certificate from M/s. Indian Register Quality
Systems in December, 1999.
5. PORT CHARGES :
(a) The Port is committed to maintaining
transparency and competitiveness in its tariff
structure. Detailed Schedule of charges are
available to the port users, on demand.
(b) The Port is committed to creating adequate
infrastructural facilities by direct investment of
Port's surplus funds for port development plans as
well as by attracting investments from the private
sector.
(c) The port is committed to improving the
productivity, while at the same time preserving the
environment and enhancing the quality of life.
(d) The Port is also committed to providing a safe
and healthy working environment in the port area and
aspiring for ISO 14000 certification.
6.
Compilation of feedback of various stackholders
As a part of continuous improvement in various
services offered to users, Port obtains feed back (
in prescribed format made available on website)
twice annually from all users and the required
action is taken judiciously to achieve the
organization objective.
